Specialized Therapeutic Yoga Programs
Programs that Work for You
I design and deliver specialized therapeutic yoga programs within various organizations. These student-centered classes are based in a healing-centered approach to health and well-being that recognizes the need for community care, and applies a flexible and customized program to each person and organization.
My programs are trauma and violence-informed and are rooted in a commitment to empowerment, equity, accessibility and the belief that all bodies are deserving of respect and celebration.
Who do you Design Therapeutic Yoga Programs for?
I design class series, therapeutic workshops, and group sessions for social service organizations, non-profits and businesses that incorporate trauma-sensitive yoga practices, mindfulness techniques, and self-care strategies to support individuals in healing from trauma and cultivating resilience.
Who Participates?
Trauma-informed yoga therapy programs are designed for individuals who seek healing and support from trauma through the integration of yoga practices and principles. These programs cater to a diverse range of participants, including care providers and the populations they serve. Overall, trauma-informed yoga therapy programs are designed for anyone who seeks support in their healing journey. These programs offer a holistic and integrative approach. emphasizing safety, empowerment, and self-compassion.
What is the Process?
-
I begin by conducting an assessment of the group or organization to identify their needs, challenges, and goals related to health and well-being. I gather information about the population, health concerns, and interest in yoga therapy.
-
Together we define clear and measurable objectives for the yoga therapy program based on the needs assessment findings. We will determine what outcomes you hope to achieve through the program, such as reducing stress, improving flexibility, managing chronic pain, enhancing mental health, or promoting overall well-being.
-
I will design the structure and format of the yoga therapy program based on the identified objectives and participant preferences. This will include program duration, frequency, class format (e.g., group classes, workshops, retreats), and session length to accommodate the needs and schedules of participants.
-
Each Yoga Therapy program includes a curriculum that integrates evidence-based yoga practices, therapeutic techniques, and mindfulness strategies to address the identified objectives. This will include take home yoga practices and self-care strategies tailored to the needs of the group or organization.
-
All of my programs incorporate trauma-informed principles and practices. I create a safe and supportive practice environments that emphasizes empowerment, choice, and agency.
-
I prepare resources and materials needed for the yoga therapy program, such as handouts, audio recordings, and visual aids. I also consider any logistical requirements, such as venue space, equipment setup, and accessibility accommodations, to ensure smooth and successful program implementation.
-
I provide guidance on how to promote the yoga therapy program to the target audience through various channels, such as flyers, newsletters, social media, website announcements, and word-of-mouth referrals through clearly communicating the program objectives and benefits.
-
I provide clear instructions, guidance, and support to participants throughout the program to ensure their safety, comfort, and engagement. This includes adjusting the program as needed based on feedback and evaluation.
-
I conduct ongoing evaluation and assessment of the yoga therapy program to measure its effectiveness, impact, and participant satisfaction. This includes collecting feedback from participants to identify strengths, and areas for improvement.
What are the Key Elements of a Successful Therapeutic Yoga Program?
- Clear Objectives These provide a roadmap for the program, outlining what participants can expect to achieve and guiding the selection of appropriate practices and techniques to meet their needs. Objectives should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART), allowing for meaningful evaluation and assessment of program outcomes.
- Evidence-Based Practices Programs incorporate evidence-based yoga practices and therapeutic techniques to ensure that sessions are grounded in research and best practices. Evidence-based practices have been shown to have positive effects on physical, mental, and emotional well-being, enhancing the credibility and effectiveness of the program.
- A Trauma-Informed Approach A trauma-informed approach creates a safe, supportive, and empowering environment for participants, especially for those who have experienced trauma or are dealing with trauma-related symptoms. Trauma-informed practices prioritize safety, choice, collaboration, and promote healing, resilience, and self-awareness.
- Individualized Assessment Conducting individualized assessments allows for a personalized approach to addressing participants' unique needs, preferences, and goals. Assessments may include physical health assessments, mental health screenings, lifestyle evaluations, and intake interviews to gather comprehensive information and tailor the program to each participant's specific circumstances.
- Holistic Integration Integrating the body, mind, and spirit. Holistic integration may involve incorporating yoga practices, mindfulness techniques, breathwork and meditation to support overall health and wellness.
- Participant Engagement Creating engaging and interactive experiences encourages active participation. Participant engagement strategies may include group discussions and journaling prompts to foster connection, learning, and growth.
- On-going Evaluation and Feedback Ongoing evaluation and feedback mechanisms allow for continuous improvement and refinement of the program based on participant experiences, outcomes, and recommendations. Regular assessment of program effectiveness, participant satisfaction, and progress towards objectives informs program modifications, adjustments, and future iterations, ensuring its relevance and impact over time.
