Yoga Therapy to Heal the Nervous System
“The primary point is that our nervous system is trying to do the right thing — and we need to respect what it has done. And when we respect its responses, then we move out of this evaluative state and we become more respectful to ourselves — and we functionally do a lot of self-healing.” - Dr. Stephen Porges

In yoga therapy, curiosity is a gentle, non-judgmental awareness that invites us to explore our inner experiences. When healing the nervous system, cultivating curiosity helps us notice sensations, emotions, and patterns with openness rather than resistance. This mindset encourages safety and self-connection, allowing the nervous system to shift from a state of stress ("fight or flight") to calm ("rest and digest"). By staying curious, we create space for healing and transformation to unfold naturally, honoring the wisdom of our bodies and minds.
-
In yoga therapy empowerment arises from reconnecting with your body’s innate wisdom and resilience. By practicing breathwork, mindful movement, and self-awareness, you learn tools to support your nervous system and respond to stress with greater ease. This process fosters a sense of agency, reminding you that healing is not something done to you, but something you actively co-create, step by step. Empowerment means reclaiming your ability to feel calm, grounded, and in control of your well-being.
-
Embodiment in yoga therapy is the practice of reconnecting with your body in a safe, compassionate way. It involves tuning into physical sensations, emotions, and movements with mindful presence, helping you anchor in the here and now. By fostering a deeper sense of awareness and connection to your body, embodiment supports nervous system regulation, grounding, and healing. It’s about coming home to yourself and cultivating a sense of wholeness, resilience, and peace.
